The Iroquois Engine's First Flight: On November 13, 1957, the revolutionary Iroquois jet engine, considered the most powerful in the world at the time, took its first successful flight. This engine was intended to power the Avro Arrow. Despite only five planes being completed, the Arrow was a technological marvel of its time, capable of breaking the sound barrier in a steep climb.
